A George II Period Carved Mahogany Side Table with Breccia Marble Top
English, circa 1770
The rectangular breche violet marble top over a frieze with applied Greek key pattern interspersed with carved flowers, bordered by a moulding carved with leaves and gadrooning. Raised on six straight legs carved with a running motif incorporating a pelta shield and terminating in leaves.

DESCRIPTION
This exquisitely carved table has particularly fine carving throughout which has retained a wonderfully untouched patina, acquired over centuries of use.
Tables of similar form include an example designed by Robert Adam for Croome Court now in the Metropolitan Museum New York.
