A George II Period Walnut Bachelor's Chest

English, circa 1720

Height: 30 ½ in (77cm), Width: 29 ½ in (75cm), Depth: 12 ¾ in (32.5cm)

The fold over top veneered in well figured burr walnut with herringbone inlay and cross banding. The interior similarly veneered with book matched veneers.
The four long drawers are likewise veneered with burr walnut, herringbone inlay and cross banded, all retaining their original lacquered brass handles and raised upon bracket feet.

The veneers throughout this chest have developed a complex and rich surface, which combined with its small size and original state make it a highly desirable piece. It is also extremely unusual for such an early example to retain both its original brassware and feet, thereby constituting it a rare survival.
