DESCRIPTION

The sweeping ‘X’ Frame decorated in original simulated rosewood and headed with carved and gilded lotus leaves, tied in the centre with larger lotus leaves, the legs raised on gilt ball feet. The arms united by turned stretchers decorated with gilt rings and central balls. Both front and back similarly decorated. The seat upholstered in antique French linen.

The design for this classic Regency stool is taken directly from Plate 53 in George Smith’s celebrated ‘A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture’ published in 1808 titled ‘Drawing Room X Seats.’
