An Unusual Pair of George III Period Mahogany Hall Chairs
English, circa 1760
The chairs of typical sgabello form but unusually with an intricate pierced design of interlocking C scrolls. The solid shaped seat with turned dish over the solid supports carved with scrolls and turned central dish.
Many hall chairs of this design exist with painted coats of arms. It is extremely rare to find a pair such as this which have the intricate pierced back, extra shaping on the seat and with scrolling to the front supports.
These chairs are also notable for their untouched colour and patina throughout.
