The attribution of this table to the designer and architect John Vardy is based on a pair of similar tables commissioned by the 5 th Duke of Bolton for Hackwood Park in Hampshire. These tables have an identical treatment of a flora mask, swags and leg decoration.

ohn Vardy ( d.1765), Designer and architect who worked closely with William Kent. In 1744 he published Some Designs of Mr Inigo Jones and Mr William Kent. There are a number drawings of his designs in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the British Museum. His best known commission was for the Duke of Bolton’s residences in Hackwood Park, Hampshire, Milton Abbey, Dorset and Grosvenor Square, London.
